paintings of what one sees when their eyes are closed
Paintings made out of many layers of various surface sheens that seek to capture what you see when your eyes are closed (as a metaphor for dark matter).
When Eyes Are Closed
When I first heard about dark matter, the visual that I immediately connected to this mystery is what I see when my eyes are closed: that mercurial, unfixed, shifting darkness. It is a visual that is intimate and continuously available, yet also vast and unobtainable (an apt metaphor for dark matter). These paintings change dramatically during viewing as they are composed of dozens of surfaces with various sheens that catch light differently with the slightest shift of viewpoint.
